I mix a background in business development and coaching with considerable experience designing and delivering "cloud computing" ICT solutions - websites, web-based administration systems, online communities, project collaboration tools etc.
This can take the form of one-to-one coaching, a facilitated team or project development day, or a longer-term project to lead the transformation of the business's online ICT capabilites - including marketing, sales, customer relationship management, administrative efficiency (time-saving) and many other possible aspects.
These days I primarily utilise the "Solutions Focus" consulting methodology for it's simplicity and effectiveness - I'm a certified Solutions Focus Professional and I was trained by the Centre for Solutions Focus at Work.
In the past I've also studied quite a bit of NLP and Systems Thinking with Sensory Systems, a fair amount of the Landmark Education material and a touch of Arbinger among many others.
I've also worked in the field of web application development for many years - both with customer-facing websites and on-demand administration systems (and the integration of these two aspects). This perhaps makes me ideally suited to projects that include these areas, though I'm also interested in projects that don't.
About the Solutions Focus Methodology
The Solutions Focus methodology is particularly effective in situations where individuals or teams feel stuck and is a proven set of tools to answer the following questions:
1. What do I (or we) want?
2. How am I (or are we) going to get it?
3. What are the next action steps?
Here's a little more detail about Solutions Focus.
Contrasting Solutions Focus with "Traditional" Thinking
Traditional ways of thinking tend to assume that in order to find a solution one has first to find "the problem" then fix it. This approach works fine in certain situations - when dealing with mechanical faults or computer programs, for example.
But I would argue it wastes a lot of time when dealing with the majority of human affairs. With human beings, focussing on the problem tends just to enhance or "thicken" it - and move us further away rather than closer to the actions we can take to get what we want.
Even the term "Solutions Focus", which came about as a counter to problem-focussed thinking, is a slight misnomer because the word "solution" still suggests there's a problem - when often there are no "real" problems, there are just people with our frailties, our fears, and our extraordinary capacity to invent things to worry about!
For this reason I would prefer something like "Project Focus", "Action Focus" or "Possibility Focus" (if it was up to me!).
